Best California Small Business Grants 2022

The best thing about a grant? It is money that you don’t have to pay back. Businesses that don’t have the capital to pay back loans or borrow against their savings to grow their businesses will find grants appealing.

Some grants are available to help fund ideas instead of existing businesses. There can be intense competition for small business grants.

You must take the time to complete your grant application. Do you require funding to finance your business or project?

In 2022, here are six California Small Business Grants you need to be aware of.

How to Apply Before You Apply

While the grant application process is not always easy, it can be time-consuming. However, there are some things you can do to speed up the process. A single document should contain all the commonly asked questions you might face when applying for grants. This will make it much easier to apply for grants by having the answers ready in advance. In your document, include the following:

  • A capital plan. Are you a startup or an established company? What other options are available to finance your business? You have options such as crowdfunding, angel rounds or loans, and seed rounds.
  • How do you model your business? These include membership, subscription, SaaS, and e-commerce.
  • Revenue streams
  • The business pitch. This should be your 15-second elevator pitch. You should think about the problems that your company solves and who your audience are. Also, consider how you will use your grant proceeds. The most important part of your answer is how your business owner can solve the problem for your customer.
  • Your small-business brand. Upload your logo, company name and a video. Your small business’s preferred aesthetic should be represented on your social media pages.
  • Target audience. Where does your small business sell to them? What would an ideal client look like for you?

Many grant applications are lengthy. You will need to use social media to help you get the most votes and earn the grant. You may lose out if your small business has a smaller following. A company with more followers had a higher engagement. Some grant committees are aware of this and use the results in a social media competition to narrow down the finalists before selecting the grant winner.

Companies may hire grant writers to apply for grants. This is more common in the nonprofit or medium-to-large business sector. Do not let this discourage you. If you do not apply, you will never receive a grant.

Keep track of all grants you apply for. Be sure to include the date, name, award amount, deadline, and other pertinent details. You need to realize that grants while being free money for your company, can still count as income. You should plan to tax any additional income.

Where to find small business grants

Grants.gov

Grants.gov can be used as both an app and a website. This allows you to search for all federally funded opportunities. Grants.gov’s most important tool is the Grants Learning Center. They can also inform you of grants that may be available to your business.

Small Business Development Centers

The U.S. Small Business Administration manages the SBDC. It offers up-to-date advice on managing small businesses and even grants application assistance. It can help with money, marketing and production, engineering, and organization issues. You can think of the SBDC as a private consultant without expense.
