In an interview for Deadline, the 79-year-old filmmaker told Deadline that he’s expecting lots of individuals to become “revulsed by the film – and is anticipating walking out.
“There is some extremely powerful scene,” he explained. “I think that we’ll have walkouts in just five minutes in the film. I’m pretty sure of it. A few people who have watched the film have commented that they feel the last 20 minutes will be extremely stressful for the audience, and there’ll be many walkouts. “I say, ‘Well it’s fine”,” said Cronenberg about the possible reaction towards Crimes of the Future. “But I’m not sure there will be a widespread reaction. I’m sure that walkouts will occur in Cannes, which is exceptional. Everyone walks out and the seats will clack when you rise, as seats fold backward and strike the rear part of the chair. The result is the sound of clack, clack, and Clack.
It’s not clear if they’ll be as outraged as they were with Crash I do not think so. It’s possible that they’ll be shocked to the point where they are ready to go away, but that’s not an indication of being outraged. In reality, I have no clue as to what’s likely to transpire.”
Crimes of the Future is a dark return to the genre of sci-fi for Cronenberg who has previously had films like Scans and Videodrome.

With his companion, the famous performer Saul Tenser showcases the metamorphosis of his organs. Saul Tenser is played by Viggo Mortensen and his co-star is played by Lea Seydoux. The mysterious group mentioned earlier is being monitored through Timlin (Kristen Stewart), an investigator with the National Organ Registry. The group is hoping to leverage Saul’s fame and notoriety to illuminate the next stage of evolution for humans… however, that might mean.

The film’s trailer offers a creepy glimpse of the film and it appears that we’ll see lots of the iconic body horror. Although, it is unlikely that the audience is truly shocked by the footage they view.
To what extent Saul will pursue his quest for modifications to his body remains to be observed… however, it appears that Cronenberg fans will be looking forward to a truly enjoyable experience.
