  • Mike Myers (Shrek). After getting annoyed with one of the directors, Myers improvised “You’re going to get smacked bottom.” This line was used again by Myers later on as Austin Powers in Madonna’s music video, “Beautiful Stranger.”
  • Eddie Murphy (Donkey), Murphy received a BAFTA nomination for his role in the film. This was Murphy’s first nomination for voiceover.
  • Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona),: One scene shows Princess Fiona burping. Cameron Diaz accidentally burped after drinking Coca-Cola in the recording studio.
  • John Lithgow (Lord Farquaad). In the film, Lord Farquaad appears to be extremely short. John Lithgow, at 6 feet 4 inches, is actually one of Hollywood’s tallest actors. This Lithgow found hilarious.

Shrek2 has some famous newcomers in addition to the original cast (Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy)

  • Julie Andrews (Queen). Andrews, the legendary star of films such as Mary Poppins or Sound of Music had never met John Cleese prior to making Shrek 2.
  • John Cleese (King). Cleese recorded all his parts while Julie Andrews recorded hers in the studio. It is an uncommon practice in animation filmmaking, but it allowed Cleese to react naturally to Andrews.
  • Antonio Banderas (Puss In Boots),: Banderas recorded the Puss In Boots voice in Spanish, Latin American, and Italian versions.
  • Rupert Everett: Everett was a well-known star, after his role as editor and friend to Julia Robert’s character in My Best Friend’s Wedding. Shrek 2 was his second animated movie (the first being The Wild Thornberrys Movie).

Shrek 3

The politics of the throne is the focus of the third Shrek film – King Harold’s. Shrek is named as the heir to the king’s estate when he falls ill. Shrek, who doesn’t want to be king and give up his swamps, plots to make Artie, a troublemaker, the new heir.

Shrek 2’s main characters, Antonio Banderas and Julie Andrews, as well as John Cleese and Rupert Everett return. Justin Timberlake plays Fiona’s cousin Arthur or Artie. Timberlake was in a relationship with Cameron Diaz during Shrek 2. They had split up before he was cast in Artie the third movie.

Shrek Forever After is a strange place. Shrek is going through a midlife crisis. Rumpelstiltskin, a villainous character with evil motives, also appears. Rumpelstiltskin tricks Shrek, a vulnerable and in crisis, into being exterminated from the face of the earth. Shrek is exiled to an alternate universe in which Rumpelstiltskin reigns supreme.

The Shrek 2/3 cast returns, along with Jon Hamm (who plays Brogan). Hamm loved the three previous Shrek movies so much that he was open to playing any role in the fourth film.
