How do I watch the X-Men films in chronological order(s)

The situation is about to become somewhat complicated. There are several methods to do this. For starters, The Easy Way places all X-Men films in a strict timeline of when they’re made – which means we move from the 1960s to the very future. This, unfortunately, creates some problems because Dark Phoenix does not lead particularly well into the original X-Men. Then you have the issue that it is the Dark Phoenix catastrophe that happens again when we meet Jean Grey in The Last Stand… It’s an exact chronological order, not considering different timelines.

However, you’d be better off considering the various timelines created when Days of Future Past erases the past we experienced in the first trilogy. The first one is X-Men The First Class and is technically applicable to both timelines and continues to the very future and the event that causes Wolverine to return to 1973 to stop the Sentinels. It may be more apparent when we show you the order, but its two timelines do not align. …!

The Easy Way

Ideal in: No one. This is a simple timeline of events that doesn’t take into account the multiple timelines.

  • X-Men: First Class
  • X-Men Days of Future Past
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  • X-Men: Apocalypse
  • Dark Phoenix
  • New Mutants
  • X-Men
  • X2: X-Men United
  • X-Men: The Last Stand
  • The Wolverine
  • Deadpool
  • Deadpool 2
  • Logan

It is possible to argue Days of Future Past may be the last in its futuristic setting of 2023. However, most of it is set in 1973, so you can change it around to your preferences. Deadpool 2 also focuses on Wolverine’s demise in Logan, which is the sequel in 2029. Let’s take for granted that Deadpool is marching according to his beat.

Second timeline

  • X-Men: First Class
  • X-Men: Days of Future Past (past events)
  • X-Men: Apocalypse
  • X-Men: Dark Phoenix
  • New Mutants
  • Deadpool
  • Deadpool 2
  • Logan

There are plenty of problems regarding the X-Men timelines, which are so numerous that they may warrant an entire article. But, if you take the whole series as two timelines that are almost in order of release, it is possible to comprehend the whole story.

We recommend not focusing on any inconsistencies. The X-Men series was indeed created before the MCU and established how films should be viewed by each other. There’s no point trying to apply the logic of real-world situations to a world full of monsters, mad scientists, and mutants (we’re watching Bolivar Trask, Bolivar Trask). However, that’s the thing that’s unique about the X-Men as an extension of the prejudices that exist in real life in a world of superheroes. And we are incredibly grateful for that.
