Blockchain games don’t seem to be new. There are many options, and there are many. Many of these have had great success, with CryptoKitties, My Crypto Heroes, and Axie Infinity attracting a large player base. Have a look at these Illuvium Facts below!
We have yet to see a AAA title that has broad appeal. With Illuvium on the way, we may be able to change this.
What is Illuvium (ILV), and How Can It Help?
An open-world fantasy war game, Illuvium is built on the Ethereum Blockchain. Illuvium is often referred to as the first AAA game built on Ethereum. It offers a variety of trading and collecting features that will appeal to both casual gamers and hardcore DeFi enthusiasts.
Illuvial are creatures that inhabit the world of Illuvium. Players can capture them and then nurse them back to health. They become part of the player’s collection and can be used to battle other adventurers in Illuvium’s auto-battler gameplay.
It is a combination of open-world exploration and a PVP war game. The game allows players to explore the world and build their team of powerful beasts.

Illuvium has been in development since 2020. It is being developed by a global team of over 40 people, including the cofounders, serial entrepreneur, and early cryptocurrency user Kieran Warwick and Aaron Warwick, both brothers. They are also brothers to Kain Warwick, cofounder of DeFi platform Synthetix.
There are many uses for the ILV token within the Illuvium ecosystem. It is the primary token that rewards players for their achievements in-game. It also entitles them to their share in the Illuvium vault.
What is the Work of Illuvium?
Illuvium is blockchain-based, but it feels more like a full-fledged game. Accessible via a desktop app, it also includes various supporting DeFi apps surrounding it — including a yield farmer and decentralized exchange.
The Illuvium landscape is home to many players who battle Illuvials and other players. They also participate in daily challenges and quests and share the communal storyline. They collect Illuvials along their journey. These have a variety of characteristics that make them unique in rarity, utility, and desirability. These include:
- Classes: Empaths, Fighters, Guardians, Rogue, and Psion.
- Affinities: Water, Earth, Fire, and Nature.

While class and affinity are the most important attributes of an Illuvial, many other attributes can also influence its combat strength. These include attack damage, attack speed, and savagery. Illuvial becomes stronger after winning, can be improved with in-game objects, and upgraded to a special “ascended,” which can benefit from two affinities simultaneously.
Each Illuvial has a unique token (NFT), which can be traded freely on exchange platforms and the gas-free IlluviDEX. (more details later). You can also fuse them into stronger forms. They are available in dark holographic, normal, and holographic varieties, rarer.
There will be a range of revenue streams for the game, mainly from in-game purchases of crafting components, cosmetics, and shard curing. The ILV tokens purchased through an ILV buyback program are eligible for 100% of the revenue.
What makes Illuvium so special?
Illuvium is unlike other blockchain-powered games. It features a fully 3D environment with over 100 unique Illuvials scattered across its different regions. A team has designed every Illuvial made up of top-level artists. This makes it appealing to those used to playing big-budget retail games.
It also boasts many features that stand out among other blockchain-enabled AAA titles and games. These features include:
Layer-2 Incorporation
Illuvium is secured with Ethereum. However, it is built upon Immutable X (IMX), a layer-2 solution designed to scale applications that use NFT functionality.
Illuvium leverages ImmutableX’s capabilities to ensure that players can trade and mint NFTs with virtually instant transaction finality and zero gas fees. Players have full custody of their assets when using IMX.

The IlluviDEX
Illuvium has a built-in decentralized platform ( DEX), appropriately named the IlluviDEX.
This fee can be used to trustlessly exchange Illuvial assets, including Illuvial NFTs. Each sale is subject to a 5% commission, which is then funneled into the rewards pool of ILV stakes.
Yield Farming
The Illuvium yield farm program is allocated 3 million ILV, equivalent to 30% of the maximum supply (10 million). They will be distributed to participants who contribute liquidity over three years and through various reward schemes.
What is sILV?
Illuvium has a unique yield farming rewards system. All ILV rewards from the yield farm are locked for one year before being withdrawn.
Stakers can opt to skip the unlock times by converting ILV rewards into a secondary, in-game asset called sILV. Users can claim their rewards as sILV and receive USD equivalent. They can also spend their rewards earlier to buy in-game items.
SILV cannot be removed from the game. It is not represented as a blockchain-based asset.
How does Illuvium compare with Axie Infinity?
Both AxieInfinity and Illuvium have collectible characters that can be traded, upgraded, and battled. However, their game worlds are somewhat different.
On the one hand, Illuvium is a 3D role-playing game with a slowly revealed storyline and vast, open, explorable terrain. Axie Infinity, on the other, is a popular 2D game featuring adorable Axis, which are very similar to Pokemon. These Axies are bred, traded, and can even be battled. There is currently no story mode.

Axie Infinity and Illuvium both have a strong, gamified DeFi element. This means that there is real Ether (ETH), which can be at stake while playing either of them — as some Illuvials or Axies could fetch substantial amounts on the open market.
Illuvial from Illuvium are unique, unlike AxieInfinity, which uses random assets to create each Axie. Each one is unique and has custom artwork and rigging reflecting its region.
Both games have many similarities. However, Illuvial targets traditional gamers who may have had experience with NFTs and cryptocurrencies. Axie Infinity, however, would appeal more to crypto-savvy gamers.
