Is Ben Is Back Based on a True Story?
It’s not. Ben Returns is an imaginative work created by the brilliant screenwriter, Oscar Award-nominated director, playwright writer, and playwright Peter Hedges. Although Hedges might have gotten his inspiration from his own experiences being a member of a household that was afflicted by addiction and alcoholism, The story and the characters are all figments of his imaginative imagination.
Any similarity to actual people is probably to be unintentional or accidental at best. But the story is one that resonates and paints a poignant depiction of struggling to navigate the suburban and family life amid the chaos in the home, and thus feels a real or, at the very least, a compelling story for a lot of viewers.
