1. Its destruction of Pompeii is covered by Latin graffiti
Pompeii was one of the cities that had been submerged under volcanic ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. the year 79. This incredible ruin offers an unimaginable glimpse of Roman living, frozen at the time of its burial. It allows visitors to observe the daily lives of those who resided there. It also includes graffiti artists who have added their tags in Vulgar Latin!
2. Before 1977, children were able to play at Stonehenge!
Stonehenge is a well-known ruin located on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England. It is a ring with an outer consisting of enormous standing stones sarsen with lintel stones that are horizontal, and inside is an encircling ring of smaller bluestones. The archaeologists believe it was built between 3000 BC and 2100 B.C., but the mystery had always surrounded the epic ruin, which is why nobody is certain when, where or why it was constructed. Before 1977, you could play with the stones; however, nowadays, they’re well-guarded to prevent them from harm.

3. The Great Wall of China is not visible from the lunar surface!
The Great Wall of China is a set of fortifications located on the northern border of Imperial China as protection against invasions. Parts of the wall were constructed at various times and gradually joined up through the decades. Certain parts of it have become in ruins in the present, while others remain in quite a good condition! In the past, due to its size, the urban legend claimed that it could be seen from the moon, but this is not the case, unfortunately. It is visible via Google Earth, so good news for you there.

4. Five boats were submerged beneath The Great Pyramid of Giza
It is believed that the Great Pyramid of Giza is the most famous and oldest structure within Greater Cairo, Egypt. All of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and, although it’s technically destroyed, a good portion of it is still preserved! The pyramids’ excavations began on the site in 1954, five pits with a boat shape were discovered. Three of the boats were gone; however, two of them remained and can be seen today in an exhibit.
5. The city that was destroyed in Tikal was used as a backdrop for Star Wars
Tikal is the ruin of an old city found in the jungle of Guatemala. Tikal was once among some of the largest cities of the ancient Maya and was eventually abandoned by its inhabitants and then absorbed by the time-worn jungles (and real jungles.) Director George Lucas used Tikal as one of the locations for filming an imaginary moon.
6. Guinea pigs were once important in Machu Picchu!
Machu Picchu in the southern part of Peru situated on a huge mountain ridge known as”the Sacred Valley. It is believed that it had been constructed between 1438 and 1472 as an estate belonging to Emperor Pachacuti. It is now a ruin, and many odd things have been found on Machu Picchu, including the remains of guinea pigs found in specific burial chambers. It is believed that people were buried alongside their guinea pigs to keep them company during the next life. Aw!
7. The Easter Island ‘heads’ have bodies!
Moai statues are huge ruined megaliths that were discovered at Easter Island. They were constructed between 1400-1650 A.D. by the Rapa Nui people. Some call them”the Easter Islands Heads, but they’re not accurate. The statues’ bodies have been covered with soil through the years!
8. The Parthenon was an ancient temple, a church or a mosque, and the treasury used to store gold!
The Parthenon is probably Athens, one of the most famous Grecian ruins. It was originally built to honour the goddess Athena. The Greek goddess Athena: Many festivals and events have been held in and around the temple. Due to war and invasion, this ruin has served as various things through the years, such as the temple, a church, an orthodox mosque, and even the gold store!
9. There’s a cave-palace in America which was abandoned, and no one knows the reason!
In the southwest region of America, there is Mesa Verde National Park, which has over 600 ruins of cliffs. The largest of them is known as Cliff Palace. Cliff Palace is an enormous sandstone cliff. In all, the palace was home to more than 150 rooms! Somehow, the people stopped living in the cave community in the 13th century; however, nobody can pinpoint the reason.
10. The city of Hampi that has been destroyed Hampi is adorned with carved images of mythical sea creatures!
Hampi had been a massive medieval city and was among the most prosperous cities in India. It was the centre of activity for the Karnata Empire and was home to stunning temples and imperial palaces, but all that is left is crumbling ruin. The city was established in the 14th century through two princes. Its principal temple of the city is home to numerous sculptures of mysterious sea creatures!
